Orthodontics

We offer orthodontic treatment for all ages. Orthodontic treatment is not just about creating beautiful smile; it is also for ensuring favourable growth and development in younger patients, and improved masticatory (chewing) function and speech for any age groups.

Treatment could be from esthetic improvement, interceptive growth modification, comprehensive orthodontic treatment, to more involved procedure such as corrective jaw surgeries (orthognathic surgeries). In the end, the outcome we are aiming for you is improved oral health, beaming happy smile and boosted self-confidence.

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten teeth by using metal brackets and arch wires. With metal braces, there is the option of adding colored elastics (o-ties) for a more unique and colorful smile.

Ceramic Braces

They came about to show less of metal appearance while receiving fixed orthodontic treatment. Our patients choose this option if they prefer something fixed, yet do now want to show as much as metal braces.

Clear Aligners (Invisalign, 3M Clarity)

Clear aligners are an alternative to fixed braces and are designed to help guide teeth into their proper position. Similar to braces, clear aligners use a gradual force to control tooth movement, but without wires or brackets. Clear aligners and braces are both effective to straighten your teeth. Still, there are some complex situations where traditional metal braces would be a better choice. Having said that, there are several advantages to using clear aligners:

  • Clear aligners make it easy to brush and floss after meals

  • Clear aligners may allow less numbers of office visits

  • Clear aligners are more comfortable and less likely to irritate the gums and cheeks

  • Additionally, clear aligners are a great option for patients with previous orthodontic treatment who want to make minor corrections to their smile.

Braces vs. Clear Aligners

It’s a conversation we have in our office again and again. Clear aligners are a good alternative for patients who want a straighter smile, but do not want to wear traditional braces. Clear aligners are suggested to be worn 22 out of 24 hours in order to achieve the expected result. This means if patients are not wearing them, teeth will not move and treatment time will become lengthened.

Ultimately, every patient is different and the best option comes down to patients and their families’ life styles, preferences, and orthodontic needs. Our office carries two leading company brands, Invisalign and 3M Clarity aligners.

During our initial orthodontic consultation appointment, we can help you decide which one would be the best option for you or your family member.
